AÏT BENHADDOU KASBAH ⤍ ATLAS STUDIO ⤍ ZAGORA ⤍ TAMEGROUTE ⤍ M'HAMID ⤍ ERG CHIGAGA
338Km — (56km Through the Sand Track)
On the second day, you’ll be picked up from your riad/hotel in Aït Benhaddou and drive towards the Erg Chigaga desert. Our first stop will be Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate, one of the well-known film studios in Morocco, where you can see some of the sets used in famous movies and productions.
From there, we’ll continue to the scenic Draa Valley, known for its lush oasis, palm groves, and ancient ksars. We’ll then head to the village of Tamegroute, where you’ll visit the famous Quranic Library, the underground Kasbah, and a traditional pottery workshop. The Quranic Library, known as the Zaouïa Naciria, contains more than 4,000 books and was founded in the 17th century by scholars of the Zaouïa Naciria. We’ll then take a short walk to the underground Kasbah, where you’ll have time to explore and take some photos.
Next, we’ll visit the local pottery workshop, where the pottery is still made by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Later, we’ll drive to M’Hamid, the last oasis of the Draa Valley before entering the Sahara and heading towards the Erg Chigaga dunes. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our journey.
From M’Hamid, we’ll take the sandy tracks towards Erg Chigaga. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your camel guide and set off on a short camel ride as the sun begins to set over the dunes. Take in the beautiful desert scenery, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and watch the sunset from the heart of the dunes. It’s a perfect way to relax after a long day on the road. In the evening, enjoy a traditional dinner and spend the night at a Berber camp.
