Get ready to immerse yourself in the authentic wildlife of the Sahara desert of Merzouga. The trip begins in Marrakesh, then ventures to the stunning landscapes from the high atlas mountain to the Sahara desert, and then ends the trip in Fez city. Begin with the ancient Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou passing Tizi n’Tchika pass, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Traverse the fragrant Roses Valley and marvel at its picturesque vistas. Explore the rugged beauty of Dades Gorge and the towering cliffs of Todra Gorge. Venture into the mesmerizing Sahara Desert in Merzouga, where you’ll enjoying a camel ride over the dunes and spend a night in an equipped Berber camp with a local traditional folk songs. In the last day, you will traveling through the scenic Ziz Valley and admire its lush palm groves. Experience the alpine charm of Ifrane and encounter Barbary macaques in the Cedar Forest before arriving in Fez city.

Detailed Itinerary

1st Day: 349km
Marrakesh – Aït Benhaddou Kasbah – Roses Valley – Dades Gorges

After an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your riad/hotel in Marrakesh. Transfer by car for a drive to the fortified kasbah of Aït Benhaddou through Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass 2.260m. Stop on route at the peaks of the mountains for a cup of coffee and morning local refreshments. After a short drive we’ll arrive at one of the highlights of this expedition. Aït Benhaddou is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Its a free time for lunch before embarking to discover the kasbah. Aït Benhaddou is a place filled with history, was once a major stop point on the ancient caravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara. It has been used for filming various movies such as Gladiator, The Mummy, Black Hawk Down, The Message, and most recent critically acclaimed series Game of Thrones.
We’ll continue our journey to the last stop. On the way to the Dades valley we’ll pass a local roses markets at Kalaat M’Gouna known as the “city of roses” where you will find all kinds of local products, which are mainly sold by thi area tribes. Overnight in your riad at Dades.

Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Merzouga

Today we’ll leave Dades Gorges and go on our way to the Merzouga. You will discover many sights, so take your time for photo stops. In Dades Gorges, we’ll go to the winding Road, probably one of the best photo opportunities in the area. On the way back to the main road, we’ll stop to seeing the Volcanic Rocks known as Monkey fingers among locals. Next, we continue in the direction of Todra River, on the way we will pass a few Berber villages. Todra Gorge features high limestone cliffs rising up to 300m. The landscape of this place even in summer leaves a deep impression. Next, we’ll drive on to Touroug, a good spot for a lunch. There are various local restaurants. Finally, at the end of the afternoon, we will drive to Merzouga. Once we arrive, you will end your day with a camel ride to the desert camp, where takes between 1:30 – 2 hours to reach, including a stop to relax and enjoy the sunset view over the dunes. You will stay overnight in an equipped Berber camp with a local traditional folk songs.

Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifran – Fez

In the morning you will enjoy an memorable experience!, where you’ll climb the dunes upwards to watch the sunrise. Then go back into the camp for serve a warm typical breakfast. Next, depart north to Fez, one of the famous imperial city. Later, after a drive along the foothills of Ziz Valley Mountains, enjoying the mesmerizing landscape of the Valley. We’ll stop for a cup of coffe at the peak of the mountain, seeing a wonderful panoramic view of Ziz Valley. Next, we continue our journey to Midelt town, Moroccan apple capital. Its lunch time before go to Ifran, also known as Switzerland of Morocco, this small village is a unique and interesting. You’ll be plenty of time to walking and explore this beautiful town. Overnight in your riad/hotel at Fez.
